The construction of the GDCB – Guangzhou Development Central Building, situated directly on the bank of the Pearl River, was completed within two years. With 37 storeys and a total height of 150 m, it houses individual, dividable units for rent in a gross floor area of 75,000 square meters, which are optimally lit due to the (narrow) building depth. This is achieved by dividing the building into three sections, a glassed mid-section with a central area of access and two flanking, slightly narrower side sections, in which the offices are located.
The side section facades are structured with a grid pattern made up of supports with natural stone facing, and cross beams, integrating two storeys. Vertical sun-screening metal lamellas, which are electrically controlled, move according to the position of the sun. They provide for glare-free light and a pleasant temperature in the offices. The interior is characterized by a small number of high quality materials. In addition to natural stone, glass and wood, the interior of the Guangzhou Development Central Buildings is characterized above all by the facing on the central core of the building, which is made of jade green textured glass.
