The German House is located in District 1, the commercial and cultural center of the city, and not only accommodates the German General Consulate with visa office, but also the German Chamber of Foreign Trade, the Goethe Institute, the German Academic Exchange Service, as well as the company headquarters of numerous well-known German and international companies in Vietnam. The northern half of the building that faces the road is 75 meters high and topped off with a roof terrace, whereas the part to the rear rises to 110 meters. A glazed joint separates the two parts. The compact double-skin facade represents a milestone in office building. It is the first of its kind in south-east Asia and was specially developed for the tropical climate by gmp in cooperation with Drees & Sommer: movable perforated sunscreen louvers are fitted between the external impact pane and the internal window pane. This facade system prevents the interior from overheating, it absorbs sound, and achieves a 35% reduction in energy consumption in the operation of the air-conditioning system compared to the local standard. The German House has already been awarded numerous prizes, such as MIPIM Asia, and achieved LEED Platinum and DGNB Gold certification. Both these certificates were awarded for the first time in Vietnam.
