Congress Hotel for HafenCity's Elbbrücken Quarter
At the eastern edge of the Elbbrücken quarter, at the Baakenhafen basin, a congress hotel with a large conference area, a sky bar, and offices will be created. Reflecting the shape of the site, the building is a triangular block with inner courtyard, has an eight- and nine-story plinth and a 19-story hotel tower, which has also been designed with a triangular floor plan and will make the building stand out when viewed from Hamburg city.
The bi-tone facade in red and nuanced white reinterprets Hamburg’s typical brick architecture and cloaks the building as a perforated facade. The facade of the block is structured horizontally in line with the stories, whereas the tower features a two-story vertical structure that dynamically follows the upwards movement of the tower. The heart of the new building is taken up by the congress hall on the first floor that is framed to the south and west by the congress lobby and has space for seating for up to 1,100 people. A total of 14 meeting rooms are arranged around the congress lobby on the first and second floors, where the lobby of the short-stay hotel and the lift lobby of the extended-stay hotel can be found. Access to all these functions is provided via a two-story arcade at Baakenwerder Strasse to the west of the congress hotel. The offices and a café are accessible from the east. The building is topped off with a sky bar on the 19th floor with a roof terrace and view of Hafencity. Construction has been scheduled to start in 2020.
