Founding partner, Hamburg Elbchaussee

Marg, in partnership with Meinhard von Gerkan, founded gmp · Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners in 1965. With Berlin Tegel Airport, a significant project marked the very beginning of his professional career. From 1979 to 1983, Marg was President of the Association of German Architects (BDA). In 1986 he accepted the nomination to the Chair of Urban Design and Material Studies at the Faculty for Architecture at Aachen Technical University (RWTH), becoming the successor of Gottfried Böhm. Marg’s oeuvre is multi-faceted, although his world-wide international reputation is based on his stadium buildings in many corners of the globe. In exhibitions and publications, Marg promotes a respectful approach to architectural history. He is a member of the German Academy for Urban Design and Regional Planning and the Freie Akademie der Künste in both Hamburg and Berlin. In addition, he is a co-founder of the gmp Foundation and the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) for the advancement of young architects. Marg has received numerous awards, such as the Fritz Schumacher prize, the medal of the Freie Akademie der Künste Hamburg, the Grand Award of the Association of German Architects, and the Federal Cross of Merit.
