We mourn the loss of Klaus Nickels
June 9, 1934 – March 20, 2026
He was the first partner of Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg, and together they led the construction of Berlin Tegel Airport. They went on to collaborate on a number of significant urban planning and architectural projects that helped shape our practice in its formative years. Several of these buildings are now listed as historic landmarks, including Berlin Tegel Airport, the Stormarnhalle in Bad Oldesloe, and the Sportforum at Kiel University.
From 1974 onward, he pursued his own professional path. We owe him a great deal. Our thoughts are with his family and all those who were close to him.
