Robert Friedrichs studied in Venice, Zurich, and Braunschweig. He then joined the scientific team researching urban design at Hamburg’s HafenCity University. He joined gmp in 2001 and took part in numerous successful international competitions and studies; he also completed a variety of construction projects of different typologies, amongst them hospitals, trade exhibition centers, stadiums, railway stations, schools and offices, as well as refurbishments of listed buildings.
