The new construction of Exhibition Hall 19/20 with its adjoining conference area, designed by gmp, is located at the northern main entrance of the exhibition grounds of Deutsche Messe AG in Hanover. The project has now been completed after a construction period of one and a half years. With a total area of 25,700 square meters, it combines an exhibition hall with a conference and convention area.
Whereas the exhibition hall has a steel structure, the convention area was designed as a reinforced concrete skeleton construction. The light-silver-colored façades are aluminum sandwich panels. The column-free hall provides an exhibition space of around 14,300 square meters and can easily be subdivided into two areas. Because of its spatial flexibility and soundproof wall cladding, even non-exhibition events can be held here.
The hall’s flexibility isn’t limited to its division into rooms: It also permits a flexible distribution of exhibition booth structures. The roof supports the suspension of heavy loads and the floors have a maximum load-bearing capacity of 100 kN/m². A dense system of floor ducts also provides each exhibitor with individual access to power.
The conference and convention area is located at the eastern end of the hall and has a glass façade that opens toward Nordplatz. Here, the ground floor accommodates a restaurant and a large conference room. The second floor contains a conference hall with production and interpreter rooms that can also be subdivided if necessary. A total of five additional halls are distributed along the northern and southern façades of the new exhibition hall.
